how digital marketing works- tips and tricks in 2021.
There’s one phrase that I’ve always focused on extensively in my marketing
emails and social media posts, “Digital marketing”. It’s my go-to slogan when
selling myself and my ideas to potential clients, and it always has been.
This year has brought several new opportunities for marketers. Many
businesses are turning their focus to digital marketing not only to keep up
with the new trends of online consumption but also to respond to changing
customer preferences. Both winners and losers of the changing climate are going
to have to develop an effective digital marketing plan to ensure they keep up.
To better understand how digital marketing works, and how to build a
well-timed digital marketing plan to deliver on customer expectations, I’ve had
the chance to learn from digital influencers:
“Viral video is not as graphic design. You don’t look at your competitors,
and that is okay, we haven’t done the video like them.
Nothing to laugh about. Nothing cooler than an idealist at a crunch!
It’s nearly impossible to find one truly viral video in any field right
now. But it won’t take someone outside the business to figure it out. Vroom’s
team does a phenomenal job scouring all forms of content being shared on social
media to find the best and most engaging videos. Watch out for the dips in view
count and CPM and watch where others don’t. Expect the chink in the armor by
2016. And trust me, there are chinks everywhere. Not to mention there are
countless influencers out there who have used this formula to their advantage.
The benefit of these steps alone is hardly novel, nor is it a new idea.
This idea is becoming more and more widely accepted as marketers look for new
ways to create and sustain long-term relationships with customers, which was
the main point I was trying to drive home in my email.
What’s new and different is that many marketers are turning to technology
to better and more effectively identify what’s important to their target
customers, and how to take advantage of these insights to craft the best
digital marketing campaigns.
Digital marketers spend millions of dollars building marketing tools —
something which is supposed to be just like a traditional database or CRM. But
how digital marketing is performed has been altered in recent years. Data is
everywhere: on your phone, on a computer, on your smartwatch, on your palm. But
social media, email, and search information are trapped in silos that are hard
to unify and find underlying context — a bit like a library where “books” can’t
all be found in the right place and if you look at it in just the right way.
And as everyone uses social media differently, marketers need to understand how
different people use these tools and what types of content are more effective
for creating long-term relationships with a specific segment of people.
That’s where Machine Learning comes in. It’s the newest evolution of algorithms
that mimic human action. It takes our data and creates algorithms that help
generate the same content that we do. For example, how might we combine
existing interactions like browsing patterns and location to draw interest for
an article or show? This type of content strategies that funnel current
customers to the right channels and get in front of potential customers who may
not have been already aware of what your brand is about. The power of ML is
growing, and these types of capabilities are gaining momentum in other fields
outside of marketing as well, including Art.
What will we need to do to get the most out of this powerful technology?
While many of us focus on making our interactions with technology more
convenient and more enjoyable, the reality is that technology can be used to
drive real impact and real change.
I think that whatever we need to do to leverage technology, we should focus
on building a brand that our customers engage with (and trust). And this
involves understanding what customers value and satisfying their needs, while
at the same time, doing something important to ensure you survive, thrive, and
even become the disruptor, instead of the disrupted. This type of loyalty and
longevity is harder to create and sustain than traditional campaigns because
you must go above and beyond to prove your worth to your customers and to the
dynamic ecosystem that surrounds you.
Digital technology is quickly becoming more prevalent and more deeply
integrated into our lives. It’s one of the most powerful technologies of our
time, enabling us to create powerful solutions that disrupt industries. This
year and beyond, digital technology is going to go from being novel to common
sense. And marketers who have a good idea and a solid strategy will be at the
forefront of this massive transformation.
